The initial assessment is a comprehensive evaluation which includes an extensive clinical interview with the patient and parents, and if needed, gathering collateral information. Dr. Almeida-Scaff will then share her assessment impressions and recommend an individualized treatment plan.
The first appointment is also an opportunity to assess if you and Dr. Almeida-Scaff feel like you can work well together. If you are a "good fit", then follow up sessions will be scheduled based on your needs and the recommendations for your care.
If medication is indicated, regular follow-up appointments will be scheduled for ongoing treatment monitoring. Frequency of appointments will be decided together according to your treatment plan.
As necessary, patients will be referred to therapists in combination with medication stabilization.

During follow-up appointments, Dr. Almeida-Scaff and the patient and parents will go over the progress of treatment and make appropriate adjustments as needed. She will provide education on the diagnosis, treatment plan, medication management, and incorporate psychotherapy in her sessions when appropriate. During each visit, she will meet with the parent and child/adolescent separately as well as together.
After the initial evaluation, the duration of the follow-up appointment is typically 20 - 30 minutes.

Telemedicine (aka telepsychiatry) are online sessions with internet access on your computer, tablet or smartphone. It is convenient and private through a HIPAA compliant videoconferencing platform.
For Florida patients: telemedicine and in-person options for appointments available for children, adolescents and adults. In some circumstances, it is necessary to have an in person visit. This will be discussed and decided together with Dr. Almeida-Scaff on a case by case basis.
For Georgia patients: telemedicine appointments are available for patients living in Georgia. Due to prescribing law regulations, controlled medications will not be prescribed for patients living in Georgia. If controlled medication is an option for your treatment, Dr. Almeida-Scaff will collaborate care with your local primary care physician or pediatrician (when agreed).
